HB602/Act 19 was signed into law in April 2010 and became effective in June 2010. This law expanded the scope of practice for Expanded Function Dental Assistants to include Coronal Polishing, Fluoride Placement and impression taking for athletic appliances. Along with these changes new regulations on continuing education were finalized (and published in the PA State Bulletin on September 8, 2012) by the State Board of Dentistry. All EFDA's (with three exceptions) must complete a 3 hour lecture/hands on Coronal Polishing & Fluoride Placement course by their renewal date on March 31, 2013.
